Did we mention that we are so often inspired by our customers? A few days ago, two women came to for a semi-private class to learn traditional knotting using pearls. As it turns out we are seeing knotting with all kinds of beads these days and with the huge selection of silk cording that is available, the options range from a very traditional pearl necklace with matching silk to vintage style faceted clear beads using rich purple or black silk cording. These two had an even different take: they wanted to combine the old with the new, they wanted to reach into the past and incorporate some beautiful antique pendants with their knotted pearls. The look was so fresh – I want to say Betsy Johnson, mixing pearls and charms, but with genuine antique pieces! And the two women? They would be Cary and Christy who work at Thoreauly Antiques in Concord, MA, where Cary has a huge selection of turn-of-the-century charms, pendants, and buttons to spur the imagination. Many of us have access to some of these pieces already, or a grandma or auntie who love it when fashion cycles around to favor an old forgotten treasure and will happily donate something worthy. Most anything can be brought up to date by incorporating it into a knotted pearl or crystal necklace. Hope this inspires you as much as it did us! If you’re new to knotting, or if you are looking for complementary beads – come chat, we got your back on that!! For more information on Sweet Beads classes please visit our website!
